Description

The Flame™ Series spans everything from an ultralight liner to an expedition weight mid-winter bag. While the end usage is very different, they reflect a design ethos of matching weather conditions to the lightest bag possible. The secret to the impressive performance is a combination of premium materials and careful design. The RDS 850+ Loft premium goose down, light-gauge #3 YKK zip and high performance 10D Nylon shell and 7D lining fabrics set the stage for superior performance. These materials are combined with a contoured mummy design for efficient insulation, and that mummy design is then tweaked for each model to best fit the use scenario. The women’s specific fit is wider at the hip and narrower at the shoulder and we’ve added extra down overall for increased warmth. Our ULTRA-DRY Down™ water-repellent treatment protects the down from external moisture and condensation from the inside of the bag, virtually eliminating the negative effects moisture has on down. All Sea to Summit Down Sleeping Bags use Responsible Down Standard (RDS) certified down. The ULTRA-DRY Down™ protection also makes the Flame™ an impressive hard-alpine or adventure racing bag, where every gram is counted and down has never been a viable option. Ultra-light and technical, our Flame™ Series bags are designed to keep you as warm as possible while minimising packed weight and size. Features: - Vertical box baffles in the torso area accommodates extra down and boosts warmth around the core, vertical baffles on chest optimises positions of down to prevent it moving during use - Lower part of the bag uses a sewn through horizontal baffle construction to minimise weight - ½ zip with two sliders aids access and allows ventilation from mid-section of bag - Updated sizing provides extra room for both shoulders and hips while still maintaining insulation efficiency - Draft tube prevents heat loss through the zipper - Includes hood draft collar - NOTE: This bag is not designed to pair with another Specifications: - Gender: Female - Insulation Type: Down - Down: RDS 90/10 Premium Goose Down - Fabric: 10D Shell - Fill Power: ULTRA-DRY Down® 850+ Loft - Fill Weight: Regular: 310g, Long: 355g - Shape: Contoured Mummy - Temp Rating: EN 2°c Comfort to -4°c Lower - Weight Regular: 505g, Long: 575g Technology: 3D Nano Shell: - “Our 3D NanoShell™ is an innovative approach to managing both internal and external condensation.” Tim Macartney-Snape - To achieve maximum loft and insulation, down must be dry and uncompressed. Even if sleeping in a dry tent your sleeping bag can still get damp or wet from condensation; vapour leaving your body passes through the down, and condenses on the outside and inside of your sleeping bag shell. The condensation that forms on the inside of the shell is absorbed by the down reducing its loft and warmth. - Over several days of packing and unpacking a sleeping bag, wet down mixes with dry down affecting its ability to loft. By the end of a long trip it is not uncommon for a sleeping bag to have decreased in warmth significantly because the down is damp, reducing its loft and its ability to insulate properly. - At Sea to Summit we have solved this problem with our 3D NanoShell™ and ULTRA-DRY Down™. - The NanoShell™ Face is a 20 denier fabric that is highly breathable, water resistant and treated with a Nano DWR for unparalleled performance in wet and windy conditions. - The 3D Barrier is a non-woven silicone encapsulated 3-dimensional layer under the NanoShell™ Face. Together they form the 3D NanoShell™, a condensation management system that insulates, repels water and protects loft. - The 3D NanoShell™ provides a 3-dimensional layer between the cold external environment and the warm down inside your sleeping bag. When vapour passes through the down, it enters the 3D Barrier, before exiting the breathable NanoShell™ Face fabric. Any condensation that forms under the NanoShell™ Face fabric is separated from the down by the 3D Barrier. Due to its hydrophobic nature, this 3D Barrier traps the condensation preventing this moisture from mixing with the down layer. - When conditions become favourable the 3D Barrier also promotes fast evaporation expelling moisture to the outside preserving dry and fully lofted down. - Over several days of usage, the weight of absorbed moisture and the associated drop in insulation that other bags would suffer makes 3D NanoShell™ the wise choice for expeditions. RDS: - Sea to Summit is excited to announce that in 2016 all of our Sleeping Bags will use down that has been sourced and certified by the Responsible Down Standard (RDS). - The RDS is a tool that is going to help shift the entire down and feather industry towards more humane animal rearing and handling practices. Overseen by the internationally lauded Textile exchange, the RDS requires independent, third party assessments of all aspects of animal rearing and handling throughout the entire supply chain process. By only using down that meets the audited requirements of the RDS we can have confidence that each phase of the collection process has been completed with the welfare and ethical treatment of waterfowl in mind. - This means no live plucking and no force feeding, humane living conditions and proper animal handling, from the moment of hatching throughout the life cycle of the waterfowl, and through the entire down supply chain. - In addition, The RDS will be central in helping to increase awareness about what might be happening to waterfowl as their down is harvested. We hope that you, like us, believe that the ethical treatment of animals is important, and can appreciate the importance of the RDS for achieving this in our industry. - If you would like to find out more information about how the Responsible Down Standard is trying to improve animal welfare during down collection.
