Description

Not with Wolf Tooth’s PowerTrac Elliptical™ (PTE) chainrings. Our proprietary design means a slightly less ovalized ring (10%) with less aggressive timing (112°) than competitors’ versions; any change to your pedal stroke is unnoticeable for most riders, but they still provide the POWER and TRACTION benefits inherent to oval chainrings. It’s like having two chainrings in one! With PowerTrac Elliptical rings, the larger-diameter section of the ring engages with the chain at the optimal point on the downstroke, or “Power Zone,” – between 1-5 and 7-11 on a clock face – to take advantage of your body’s natural biomechanical POWER: For example, during this section, a PTE 34t ring is equivalent to a 36t round ring. Similarly in the “Recovery Zone” (11-1 and 5-7), the smaller section on the PTE ring engages, maximizing EFFICIENCY in the weakest part of the pedal stroke; here the PTE 34t ring is equivalent to a 32t round ring. Additionally, the above provides a smoother, more efficient pedal rotation, which means better TRACTION. Steadier torque on the rear wheel means less spinning out in the “Power Zone,” while pedaling is easier during the “Recovery Zone,” so you maintain momentum. Compatibility: - These direct mount chainrings will replace your existing chainring and spider, which is attached via 3 bolts on the back side of the spider near the spindle. You will use these same 3 bolts to attach the Wolf Tooth SDM® chainring. Note that the SRAM 12spd Red and Force AXS use a different 8 bolt mounting interface that is not compatible with these chainrings. - Also compatible with Cane Creek eeWing cranksets. - There are 3 offsets: - Standard Road/CX/Gravel: 6mm offset for cyclocross and road crank applications with 47mm chainline - Standard MTB: 6mm offset for non-Boost mountain bikes, GXP and long spindle BB30 cranks for 49mm chainline - Boost: 3mm offset for 52mm chainline - BB30: 0mm offset for BB30 short spindle cranks for 49mm chainline - Fat Bikes: If you are planning to use this on an X9 or XX1 fat bike crankset with a 190/197 rear hub spacing use the 0 offset ring. If your fat bike has a 170/177 rear hub spacing, use the Standard 6mm offset - Praxis Works Road/CX cranks use the 6mm offset. Praxis Works mountain cranks use the 3mm offset for their DM-A and 0mm offset for their DM-B chainrings. - If you have a BB30 crankset (30mm diameter aluminum spindle) the measurement pictured below will help you determine whether it is a long or short spindle. - You will need chainring to chainstay clearance for a chainring two teeth bigger than the elliptical chainring (max diameter is that of a chainring two teeth bigger). - If using a 9-speed drivetrain use a 10-speed chain (shifts and works well on a 9-speed drivetrain and fits the ring tighter for better chain retention). - Available in multiple tooth profiles for optimal performance based on your chain type. Use Drop-Stop ST for use with Shimano 12-speed Hyperglide+ and 12spd KMC chains. Use Drop-Stop A for all 9, 10, and 11spd chains or 12spd SRAM Eagle, KMC, Connex or Wippermann chains. Use Drop-Stop B for SRAM 12 spd Transmission (T-type) and Road Flattop chains. Recommendations: - Recommend the use of a clutch style rear derailleur for the best chain security. - A T25 Torx wrench is required to remove the bolts that secure the chainring or spider to the crankarm. - An L-wrench works best since the crank spindle may contact a socket adapter and prevent it from engaging properly. - Use the same 3 bolts to attach the Wolf Tooth ring or if you need, we carry replacement bolts Specifications: - Weight: 34t, 83g - Material: 7075-T6 aluminum
